This workshop took place over two sessions with students from the Faculty of Visual Arts at the University of the Arts in Cuba.
The workshop introduced participants to the Quipu as an ancestral system of memory, communication, and record-keeping. Through a presentation on its history and structure, participants explored the Quipu's significance as a collective archive of knowledge.
Together, they developed a collective oral narrative, translating shared stories into knots and threads woven onto a central rope. In this process, the Quipu became both a material record and a living archive, carrying the voices, memories, and experiences of everyone involved.
The workshop created a space for listening, storytelling, and collective making, activating the Quipu as a contemporary artistic methodology for preserving oral histories and fostering shared memory.
