Ofrendas/Offerings

This series of videos has been made over the course of ten years, between Peru and the United Kingdom, from Parcate in the Andes to the Isle of Arran in Scotland.

Across these works, la ofrenda — the offering — becomes a gesture of reciprocity. I think about trueque, an Andean practice of exchange in which goods, knowledge, ideas and experiences are shared between people and communities. I bring this idea into my relationship with the territories that receive me.

Through ritual gestures, I exchange with the landscape. I activate the stone, the circle, the fire, the water, the hair and the thread. These materials become ways of communicating with a place. Hair, like the stone or fire, becomes a kind of universal language through which I leave something of my body in the territory and, at the same time, receive something from it.

Moving between Peru and the UK has made me think about how we carry one place within us while entering another. These rituals help me feel rooted and grounded in different territories.

The performances hold moments of arrival, departure, blessing and mourning. My body becomes the place where these experiences meet. Through giving, listening and exchanging with the landscape, the body is charged by these experiences and, in this process, finds its own way of healing.
